Open door policy: Kids in Harmony encourages an "open door policy" to families of children registered at our preschool. Parents are always welcome to come and take part in our classroom and are free to talk to teachers on a daily basis.
Field trips: Parents will agree/disagree to allow their children to attend field trips at initial registration. Parents will be notified ahead of time before a field trip is planned and will be given the opportunity to volunteer. Children are encouraged to wear their school t-shirt in the event of a field trip.
Illness: Please do not send a sick child to school. If they contract a communicable disease, please notify the teacher so we may make other parents aware.
Photos: We will hire a photographer to take individual and classroom photos. Dates will be released at the beginning of the school year. As well, your child's teacher may take photos in the class and on field trips throughout the year. If for any reason you do not want your child's photo taken, please inform the teacher in writing.
Drop off/Pick up: Parents are to escort children right to their classroom. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child please notify the teacher. Please be punctual when dropping off your child and please take your child to the washroom before class as this eats up precious classroom time.
Sample Daily Routine:
9:00 - 9:25 Children arrive, hang up bags, free play at activity centers
9:25 - 9:50 Circle time - attendance, calendar, weather. Teacher talks about current theme and explains craft
9:50 - 10:15 Children embark on making their own craft. The craft involves fine motor skills (coloring, cutting, tracing) and following directions. When the children are not doing the craft, they are participating at the various activity centers (sand/water table, kitchen, puzzles etc.)
10:15 - 10:20 Clean up time
10:20 - 10:45 Gym (balls, bean bags, rhythm sticks, dance)
10:45 - 10:55 Washroom and wash hands for snack
10:55 - 11:10 Snack time
11:10 - 11:25 various activities which involve getting messy through play and exploration of their world.(oil and water experiments, hidden shaving cream experiment, build a tower, read a story, play a game, sing songs or show & tell)
11:25 - 11:30 Our final circle time and prepare for home!
Please note: We do not accept mid-month cancellation or withdrawal. This includes registration cancellation and/or limited days of attendance.
A full calendar months’ written notice is required. K.I.H policy considers a full calendar month as the 1st of the month up to, and including, the last day of the month.
Child’s last day is December 31st.
Written withdrawal is provided no later than November 30th to ensure that the entire month of December (1st – 31st) is given as notice.
No exceptions will be made to this policy, thank you for your cooperation.
Snack: Each class (over 2 hours) will have snack time where children sit in a group and enjoy the snack their parents pack for them. Please write your child's name on their snack as you will place it in bins labeled 'refrigerated' or non-refrigerated' at the beginning of class and the teacher will hand these out during their snack time. Remember this is snack so a two item plus a drink is sufficient.
*This snack must be nut free, if a snack contains chocolate please ensure it clearly states 'nut-free' on the packaging. Snacks that are produced in a facility that manufactures nuts are not allowed. Fruit and veggies are always a safe and nutritious choice but please make sure they are cut properly to avoid choking. For nut free options please visit .
Absence: If your child will be away for a long period of time (1 week+) please notify your teacher. If your child is sick for one class, there is no need to contact the school unless your child has contracted a communicable disease.
Clothing: Please send your child to school with non-marking running shoes and comfortable clothing so he/she may be able to move freely in gym class. Please send a clean pair of indoor shoes to help keep the classroom tidy.
School Bags: Please check your child's school bag daily for any notices and craft projects.
